Sector requirements and segmentation for your area

The South East of England is a very varied region. It incorporates towns on the outskirts of London; major ports; large rural areas (including AONBs, green belt and SSSIs); cities, market towns and villages. It is also one of the most economically active parts of the country, accounting for 15.6% of the total UK Gross Value Added in 2003. Unemployment is below the national average and the south east region accounts for approximately 4 million jobs, predominantly in the service sector. A large number of employers in the region are SMEs (small and medium sized employers).

With such a robust and diverse economy it is essential that the south east develops the skills and qualifications among its young people to ensure the continued growth and success of the region. Working with local schools and colleges enables business to give young people up to date advice and experience so that they can make future career choices with knowledge and enthusiasm.

"I must admit that when I drive out of the car park after these sort of events, I always leave with some optimism for the future for the youngsters."
